The Butterfly

I've always loved to look at them. They are beautiful, and there are so many different colors and patterns. I even had a dream once that I was a butterfly and I flew across the ocean to a beautiful beach. Wow, what freedom I felt in that dream! The butterfly has often been used as a picture of the "new creation" we become when we accept Jesus as our Savior. I'd like to think that I have made the switch from being a lowly worm to a colorful creature who seems to dance through life on a breeze. My favorite reason, however, is that they represent "transformation." I know it's a theme that is overdone....but the thought of transformation never gets old for me. You see, I am being transformed by the renewing of my mind through Christ Jesus. (Romans 12:2, 2 Corinthians 3:18) You may notice me changing on the outside in subtle ways, or you may not. But Jesus can always see into my heart, and it is there that I will be forever "in the process of transformation." Sometimes this growth is easy, and sometimes it can be downright painful. I remain in His hands by choice because I know He holds my future (Jer 29:11) and the work He is doing in me will be for my benefit and to His glory. I invite you to read the story of The Butterfly. God could have made this process easy for us, but in the end we would be unable to fly. For it is in this process that we shed what is not good, learn how to spread our wings, and allow a holy wind to be our launch and sustain us as we soar!

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Corinthian 5:7
